This month, we’re looking at how lighting control continues to shape the future of commercial spaces – from smart base-building systems to dynamic tenant solutions that meet the needs of both today and tomorrow.
We also shine a light on our latest case study at Auckland’s Chief Post Office Building, where modern lighting control meets heritage architecture.
And before the year wraps up, our team will be taking a short off-grid break from 26–28 November to recharge and return refreshed for a strong finish to 2025.

Lighting Control for Commercial Buildings Building for Today and Tomorrow
In the world of commercial construction, lighting control is far more than an afterthought. It’s the backbone of a building’s usability, efficiency, and long-term adaptability.
Whether for an office, retail centre, hotel, or healthcare facility, lighting control plays a crucial role in balancing comfort, energy performance, and sustainability.
Lighting Control System at the Chief Post Office (CPO) Building
The Chief Post Office (CPO) Building, a heritage-listed landmark at the bottom of Queen Street and the iconic entry point to Britomart Train Station, underwent a significant redevelopment to enhance its commercial office spaces.
Intelligent Environments was engaged to deliver a state-of-the-art lighting control solution that would respect the building’s architectural character while providing modern functionality and efficiency.
From 26–28 November, our whole team is going off-grid on purpose – heading to an island in the Hauraki Gulf to recharge, reset, and soak up a bit of nature.
If you’ve got anything coming up that we should be across before then, please reach out to the team ahead of time so we can make sure everything’s sorted.
We’ll have limited email access during this time (with one person keeping an eye on emergency, estimating, and support emails), so replies may take a little longer than usual.
A couple of days offline, a bit of fresh air, and we’ll be back full of energy and ideas!
We love debunking common lighting control myths – one myth at a time!
Myth
Only a BMS can provide a graphical layout to show faults on the lighting/emergency lighting
Busted
The zencontrol system that we recommend provides 'out-of-the-box' a graphical floorplan layout showing status of all lights (including emergencies) and highlighting any faults.
